The seemingly endless paperwork can lead to volunteer fatigue in people who just want to make a difference. When I worked for a nonprofit, I saw volunteerism morph into a structured system that required hiring a volunteer coordinator. Training and classes, along with background checks, were required for people to do something as simple as working in a food pantry.
