Thank you so much for your support, Maria and highlighting the injustices that so often slip from our global news agendas.

Your words are kind, but my involvement and contribution is minuscule.

I'm fortunate to have volunteered with hundreds of similarly like-minded people since Ukraine was invaded by Russia last year.

These individuals have come from all over the world and the experience working alongside them has been humbling.

These small contributions have added up to hundreds of tonnes of humanitarian aid being carried into Ukraine and thousands of traumatised refugees, mainly women and children, being transported to safety throughout Europe.

I would like to think that if I and my family were faced with similar life-threatening circumstances through the actions of an inhumane and unjust regime, someone would step forward to help.

I believe we all need to care a little bit more in our world. To care less for ourselves and more for those far less fortunate.

That's all it takes and it really does start to make a difference.

Perhaps that's how we can all start to change the world and make it a better place in which to live.

Small steps.
