Don’t be embarrassed to be Russian.
The war in Ukraine and the frightening and horrific scenes unfolding daily are not the fault of the Russian people.
They are the work of an immoral and corrupt regime devoid of any sense of humanity.
We’re all feeling frightened, powerless and uncertain at the moment.
Ukrainian fathers and sons have been separated from their families to defend their homes and their country in a needless war that achieves nothing but misery and suffering for millions of people.
What’s important is that we find the courage to stand up and speak out against this act of aggression and the atrocities that have been inflicted on so many innocent men, women and children.
It’s so important that your voice and the voices of the many other ‘global Russians’ you speak of are heard in the heart of Russia and in the hearts of the Russian people.
Despite the propaganda and the rule of fear, I believe there are many millions of Russians who feel exactly the same as you.
Those Russians need to know the truth about what’s really going on just across the border in Ukraine.
Like you, I don’t get involved in writing about politics, but there are times when we need to take a stand and speak out against a global bully.
There may be no democracy in Russia, but I believe there is humanity in the Russian people that will have a big part to play.
Let your voice be heard, Sergey.
